After graduating from the Institute of Industrial Art in 1955, ANJA JAATINEN-WINQUIST (born 1934 in Sortavala, Russia) worked for five years as an assistant to Aune Siimes. She continued working in Arabia's Product Design Department until 1974, and she designed numerous tableware services and decorations produced at the factory, the best known of which is the M model Karelia with iron-oxide decoration. As a highly skilled wheel-turner, she also made on-off items, such as bottles and beakers that she often decorated with skilfully used matte hues of brown. Jaatinen-Winquist mixed her stoneware paste herself.
